Salford Royal provides a wide range of Cancer Services for the local population of Salford and accepts Tertiary (specialist ) referrals from across Greater Manchester. The hospital receives over 260 referrals for suspected cancers from local GP’s each month via the two week wait programme. We aim to see all referrals within 7 days.
For all cancers an initial diagnostic service is provided on site with a number of One Stop (all tests completed in one clinic appointment) being established, we aim to achieve a diagnosis within 21 days.
The vast majority of surgery is provided by the Salford Royal teams. Patients requiring surgery forLung Cancer, Head & Neck Cancers and Pancreatic Cancers would transfer to another Hospital in Manchester for this specialist surgery.
The Trust provides specialist services for patients with cancer of Brain and Central Nervous system and Dermatology (Skin cancer) from across Greater Manchester.
Patients are referred on to the Christie Trust for Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy the exception to this being Chemotheraphy for Haematology.
The Harrison Report, the strategy for development of cancer services across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, identifies Salford Royal as an Associate Cancer Centre providing a range of specialist services to patients of the North West Sector of the conurbation (Salford, Bolton and Wigan) from June 2007.
In addition the plan to open two satellites of the Christie Hospital is part of the strategy to improve access to Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. Salford Royal is the North West satellite in this plan.
The Trust hosts the ‘Macmillan Cancer & You’ cancer Information centre, which provides information to patients and general public. The team are also involved in events across Salford raising awareness of cancer symptoms and information to reduce risk of developing cancer.
Salford Cancer Patients and Carer Partnership Forum meets every three months and is involved in a number of ways with clinical teams in developing services for cancer patients .For Further information please contact:
