Meet the Team

Salford Royal has some of Europe’s leading dermatology specialists on its team.

 

Several consultants hold or have recently held National and Regional roles in Management, Medical Education and Research including with the North Western Deanery, The British Association of Dermatologists, the American Academy of Dermatology and other affiliated bodies.

 

The department is run by 26 Consultant Dermatologists. Additionally, there are numerous supporting supervised junior staff and many specialist nurses with roles designed to compliment those of the consultants.

Tim Clayton (Dr)

Professional Profile

Dr Tim Clayton is a children's skin specialist and the clinical lead for paediatric dermatology. He graduated from Liverpool University and trained as a paediatrician at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. He then worked as a paediatric registrar in New Zealand. He completed higher specialist training in Dermatology in Leeds in 2006. He then worked as a Paediatric Dermatologist in Dublin and Liverpool. Whilst working in Dublin he became involved in a number of studies looking at the genetics of atopic eczema. This research is now being continued in Manchester.

 

 
 

 

Dr Clayton is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. In 2005 he won an award for the best scientific paper and presentation at the British Society for Paediatric Dermatology (BSPD). His clinical interests include, vascular birthmarks, children's skin surgery, genetic skin disease, and eczema. Tim undertakes adult dermatology and skin cancer clinics on Fridays.

 

 
 

 

He lives in North Manchester with his wife and daughter. Outside of work Tim is an avid follower of his beloved Bury Football Club and plays a number of competitive sports. In his spare time Tim designs websites.
