Dr Wynne Rees is Clinical Director for Gastroenterology and NHS Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist. He trained in Cardiff, the Mayo clinic and Manchester and was appointed consultant at Hope Hospital in 1981. He is one of 4 consultants in the unit to have been awarded the BSG annual research medal. He is honorary reader at the University of Manchester and until recently Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians. His special interests include acid / peptic disorders, irritable bowel and endoscopy.
Professor David Thompson is a professor of Gastroenterology and Academic lead for Gastroenterology in Manchester. With Dr McLaughlin and Dr Hamdy he leads an active research programme that attracts grant income from the BDF, MRC and The Wellcome Trust. His team provides research opportunities for trainees in Gastroenterology.
Dr Jon Shaffer is Lead Clinician for the Intestinal Failure unit and Honorary Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist. He has a major role in undergraduate education and has interest in inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition.
Dr Chris Babbs is Lead Clinician for the Endoscopy unit and Regional Programme Director for GI training. He is an NHS Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist and has interest in hepatobiliary disease and GI endoscopy.
Dr Andrew Robinson is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, evidence based practice and the development of clinical protocols and pathways for managing GI disorders in Primary and Secondary Care. He is the RCP tutor for Salford Royal.
Dr John McLaughlin is a BDF Clinician Scientist and Honorary Consultant Physician / Gastroenterologist.
Dr Shaheen Hamdy is senior lecturer and honorary consultant in Medicine and Gastroenterology. His clinical and research interests include disorders of swallowing and defaecation.
