Podiatry

Podiatry is the area of health care that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of foot health problems.  Podiatry has replaced the more commonly used term ‘Chiropody’. 

 

The podiatry department has a dedicated team who provide a quality integrated service both within the community and the hospital setting. The team consists of Podiatrists, healthcare assistants and technicians.

 

Podiatry is the area of health care that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of foot health problems.  Podiatry has replaced the more commonly used term ‘Chiropody’. 

 

The Podiatrists assess, diagnose, treat and manage conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatry services include:

 

  • Assessment and treatment of a wide range of common foot complaints
  • Management of patients who have conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and peripheral vascular disease which put them at risk of ulceration and infection
  • Assessment of the structure, alignment and function of the feet/legs with appropriate treatment such as insoles, stretching and strengthening exercises to correct any abnormality
  • Minor surgery which requires the use of local anaesthetic for example nail surgery
  • Advice on prevention of foot problems and how to keep your feet in good health
  • Treatment of Children 
  • Treatment of foot pain and other problems that might require an insole
  • Diabetic foot screening
