Renal (kidney care) Services at Salford Royal are based in the Hope Building. The department supports pre-dialysis, dialysis and transplant patients and provides inpatient and outpatient services together with in-centre haemodialysis.
The service is part of a Kidney Care Network (KCN) in Greater Manchester with Salford Royal Hospital acting as the "centre" for the West Sector; caring for patients from Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Wigan, Bolton and Trafford. Manchester Royal Infirmary is the centre for the East Sector of the KCN. The 12 renal (kidney) Consultants provide outreach clinics at, or close to, all District General Hospitals in the West Sector in addition to their Salford Royal clinical commitments.
The haemodialysis unit has 29 maintenance haemodialysis stations managing 156 patients per week. There are also three satellite dialysis units supported by Salford Royal's Kidney Department - these are based at Bolton, Wigan and Rochdale.
Nursing teams supporting community peritoneal dialysis, home haemodialysis and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) management are also based at Salford Royal Hospital.
H3 provides one 25-bed ward and 13 en-suite side-rooms for elective admissions and renal patients requiring investigations and mixed specialty beds; haemodialysis can be delivered at the bedside rather than moving the patient to the renal dialysis unit. There are also dedicated Renal High Dependency Unit (RHDU) beds. This infrastructure provides inpatient support to the West Sector of Greater Manchester.
