Dr Denise Darby

Clinical Director for Pathology

 

Denise qualified in 1995 from Manchester Medical School.  Her subsequent training in chemical pathology and metabolic medicine was in and around Manchester and she became a consultant chemical pathologist at The Christie Hospital in 2009. 


She joined Salford Royal in 2013 and was appointed clinical director for pathology in 2015. Her special interests include lipids, nutrition and endocrine biochemistry.

 


Jill Carlin

Clinical Director for Radiology

 

Jill qualified in 1984 from Manchester Medical School.

 

Her subsequent medical and radiology training was in and around Manchester and she became a consultant radiologist at Wythenshawe Hospital in Jan 2000.


Jill has an interest in paediatric radiology and came to Salford Royal in March 2009 when children’s services in Salford were reconfigured and subsequently became the Clinical Director in July 2010.


Outside of work Jill competes internationally in the 'sprint-triathlon', representing Great Britain in her age group.

Clinical Director for Children’s Services


Alison qualified in 1988 at St George's Hospital in London and trained in general paediatrics in Birmingham and Leicester before moving to Manchester in 1993.  She specialised in community paediatrics and became a Consultant in Community Child Health in Salford in 2001.


She joined Salford Royal in 2011 following the integration of community services and was appointed as clinical director for children's services. 


Her special interests are in child development, disability and social communication disorders and she is the Designated Doctor for Looked after Children in Salford and the medical advisor to Salford's Fostering Panel.



Andrew Robinson

Clinical Director for Acute Medicine and Gastroenterology

 

Andrew Robinson MA BM BCh, FRCP, PhD qualified at Oxford University in 1989 and has been at Salford Royal since 2001 where he is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Clinical Director for Gastroenterology, Respiratory Medicine and Palliative Care.


He is also Core Medical Training Director for North West Deanery and Associate Regional Advisor Royal College of Physicians.


His special interests are in diarrhoea and inflammatory bowel disease and his research interests include patient participation in decision-making, guided self-management and access to information.

Lindsay Harper
Lindsay Harper

Director for Pharmacy

 

Lindsay studied pharmacy at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, graduating in 1991.  She subsequently completed her pre-registration year at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and worked as a resident pharmacist at Airedale General Hospital. During her time at Airedale Lindsay completed a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy.

Lindsay moved to Salford Royal in 1994 where she provided a clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Admissions and Haematology Unit while establishing the new Medicines Information Service at Salford. In 1996 she specialised in Cardiology and Intestinal Failure and taught on both subjects nationally, including teaching for the British Heart Foundation.

 

Lindsay has published a number of articles and book chapters on Clinical Nutrition. She went on to manage the clinical pharmacy service at Salford, from 2003, whilst maintaining an honorary clinical lectureship at the University of Manchester. While managing the clinical pharmacy service Lindsay continued to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to the National Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford looking after over 250 home patients on parenteral nutrition. During this time Lindsay spoke at a number of conferences nationally on clinical nutrition.

In 2014 Lindsay was appointed as Director of Pharmacy.  She continues to teach nationally on intestinal failure and is a member of national multidisciplinary groups regarding home parenteral nutrition.

Glyn Smurthwaite

Clinical Director for Theatres

 

Glyn has been a consultant anaesthetist at Salford Royal since 1995.

 

He has a specialist interest in anaesthesia for complex spinal surgery and difficult airway Management and is the Clinical Director of Anaesthesia and Theatres which is a very challenging role involving the management of a large group of clinical staff.  Glyn strives to maintain the best possible standard of care for our patients whilst also recognising the need for achieving maximum efficiency and resource management.

Richard Warner

Dr Richard Warner

Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine and Care of the Elderly

 

Richard graduated from St George’s in London in 1997 and moved to the North-West in 2002 to complete his registrar training in Gastroenterology and General Medicine.  Towards the end he realised that his real passion was for assessing and treating acutely unwell adults.

 

He was appointed as Acute Physician and Gastroenterologist at Salford Royal in 2007 and is now the Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine and Care of the Elderly.

Outside work Richard supports students locally who are interested in applying to study medicine. He also enjoys motorbikes and travel.
