Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust hosts over 350 active research projects covering five main areas:
-
Neurosciences led by Dr Pippa Tyrrell
-
Dermatology led by Professor Chris Griffiths
-
Vascular Research led by Professor Martin Gibson, Professor Phil Kalra and Tara Kearney
-
Gastroentorology led by Professor David Thompson
-
Injury led by Professor Gordon Carlson
Clinicians and researchers who are eminent in their fields are involved in investigating conditions and illnesses to develop new and improved methods of care. Neurosciences research at the Trust is supported by the 3T MRI scanner at Salford Royal
The Trust is also the base for two of the North West’s Local Research Networks, stroke and diabetes, with staff based at the hospital taking the lead on developing regional research into the illnesses and increasing patient participation in stroke and diabetes research.
Our research projects receive over £8.5m of external grant funding and result in many peer reviewed publications. In conducting and developing research we have enhanced our potential by joining forces with Salford Primary Care Trust to form an integrated research office that oversees acute and primary care research (NHS SalfoR+D). As part of this integration, the joint R&D office now hosts the ReGrouP partnership of nine other PCTs from across Greater Manchester. This joined up approach is a unique selling point of NHS SalfoR+D. We also work very closely with the University and other NHS partners including the Greater Manchester Research Alliance.
