Patient Support - two women

Patient Support Volunteers

Our Patient Support Volunteers work on the wards on the main hospital site, supporting our clinical staff in improving the experience of patients during their admissions. They are able to liaise continually with our clinical staff, making them aware of any issues which might need to be resolved.

The volunteers are a friendly face for patients and visitors on the wards and take the time to talk, make drinks or help with trips to the shops. The volunteers play a key role at meal times, a busy time for staff where patients often benefit from a bit of extra contact. They are also able to help by talking to patients about their experience of the Trust and their treatment, which helps with our continual improvement.

We see the presence of patient support volunteers as an important addition to the care which our paid staff provide, enhancing the overall service to patients and carers.
