Salford Royal’s Lesley Moss Receives MBE

Lesley Moss

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust’s Human Resources Services Manager Lesley Moss has received an MBE in the New Year honours list.

Lesley, who has worked at Salford Royal since 1993, was chosen for the honour because of her services to the Salford community.

Her role entails working with a wide range of local people, including young people, people with disabilities, over 50s, lone parents and the long term unemployed to offer them work placements at the Trust and increase their chances of getting employment.

Other elements of her work within the Salford community include liaising with local high schools and colleges on work experience initiatives and running bi-monthly GATEway events on the Trust site, which helps job seekers find out about skills, training and job opportunities at the Trust and with Trust partners.

Lesley said: “My role is about connecting the community with the Trust. You can turn lives around by just giving people the opportunity for employment and the right advice and guidance.

“There are so many success stories, including one man we worked with who had a disability and had not worked for 28 years. We helped him find a job, infact he worked for Salford Royal for four years. My job gives me such a strong sense of achievement and 19 years on that’s why I still love doing it.”

Lesley is also proud of the Trust’s work with the Future Jobs Fund and more recently the partnerships with the Prince’s Trust and Salford Foundation. The three schemes all give disadvantaged people the chance to take part in work placements and experience life working in a busy hospital, gaining new skills and knowledge.

Lesley, who is married with a son and lives in Ashton-under-Lyne, does not yet know who nominated her for the award.

She said: “I received a letter a few weeks ago and I didn’t really believe it until I saw my name of the New Year honours list. Now it’s sunk in, it feels really good and such an achievement for our organisation. My mum is delighted and my family are so proud too, they think it’s brilliant.”

Lesley is now looking forward to her trip to Buckingham Palace in the summer to collect her MBE from the Queen.

Salford Royal’s Director of Organisational Development and Corporate Affairs, David Wood said: “We’re extremely proud and delighted that Lesley has been recognised with an MBE in the New Year honours list.

“She works hard to offer Salford people opportunities they might not normally get. Around 50% of our workforce have a Salford postcode and again this is because Lesley and her team are committed to helping local people find jobs.

“We competed against other organisations in the public and private sector to win the Greater Manchester Employer of the Year 2010 award and Lesley’s work with the community was certainly a major contributory factor to our success.”
