Meet and Great scooter

Meet and Greet service is a great success

A meet and greet service at Salford Royal aimed at supporting patients during their hospital visit helped 1,400 people last year.


The Meet, Greet and Scooter service was launched by the Trust’s volunteer service to provide additional support for those patients who need a helping hand getting to and from appointments.

 

Anyone can benefit from the service but in the past, some of those who have booked assistance have had sensory or mobility issues, learning difficulties or dementia.

Lucy Boulter, volunteer co-ordinator at Salford Royal, said: “Since launching in 2015 the service has proven to be a huge success.


“We know that visiting hospital can be quite a daunting experience for many people but especially for those who have additional support needs. The Meet and Greet service was introduced as a way of providing that bit of extra reassurance and support to make a patient’s visit as pleasant as possible and hopefully take away some of their stress and anxiety.”


A team of dedicated volunteers have completed specialist training in how to support visitors with a range of needs and have a fleet of mobility scooters to support patients with mobility problems as well as being able to push wheelchairs. Volunteers will accompany the patient to their appointment and bring them back to their chosen location when required.


The service operates from 9am-4pm and if you get in touch, the team will do their best to accommodate your visit.
