Salford Care Organisation accredited as a VTE Exemplar Centre

Salford Care Organisation has been accredited as an exemplar centre for its work managing Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) and Anticoagulation.

The Thrombosis Committee
The Thrombosis Committee joined by Kings College Hospital and Director of Nursing, Pete Murphy

The Exemplar Centre network is a key part of the National VTE Prevention Programme and drives to reduce avoidable harm and improve outcomes for patients. Exemplar sites are selected because they have an existing track record of providing excellent VTE care and prevention and embed this across the organisation in areas such as education, audit and quality control.

Kings College Hospital came to visit the committee in November to review their application and see how they work identifying patients at risk of developing potentially life threatening blood clots and preventing them from happening.  Professor Roopen Arya from Kings College commented on his interest in the Salford Royal quality improvement journey and enjoyed seeing how this has now been extended to VTE management.

The committee’s VTE improvement project has been vast over the last 18 months with areas including surgery, inpatient wards, and community clinics improving their processes. VTE and anticoagulation will continue to be an area of development in the future and as a partner in this network, there is the opportunity to ensure that Salford Royal is continuously treating patients at risk as safely as possible.
