About the Service

Salford Royal provides a wide range of Cancer Services for the local population of Salford and accepts Tertiary (specialist) referrals from across Greater Manchester.  The hospital receives almost 1000 referrals for suspected cancers from GP’s each month via the two week wait programme.  We aim to see all referrals within seven days.

For all cancers an initial diagnostic service is provided on site with a number of One Stop (all tests completed in one clinic appointment) clinics available, we aim to achieve a diagnosis within 19 days.

The vast majority of surgery is provided by the Salford Royal teams.  Patients requiring surgery for Lung Cancer, Head & Neck Cancers and Pancreatic Cancers would transfer to another hospital in Manchester for this specialist surgery.

The Trust provides specialist services for patients with cancer of Brain and Central Nervous system and Dermatology (Skin cancer) from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Salford Royal is an Associate Cancer Centre providing a range of specialist services to patients of the North and North West Sector of the conurbation (Salford, Bolton and Wigan and Pennine – North Manchester, Bury Oldham and Rochdale).  We deliver specialist oesophago-gastric (oesophagus and stomach) surgery for over half of Greater Manchester and specialist urology (bladder, kidney and prostate) and haematology (blood cancer) services for Salford, Wigan and Bolton.

Patients are referred on to The Christie Hospital for Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy the exception to this being Chemotherapy for Haematology.

In addition, Christie at Salford is the North West satellite of the Christie Hospital to improve access to Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy.

The Trust hosts the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre, which provides information to patients and general public.  The team are involved in events across Salford raising awareness of cancer symptoms and information to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
