Data protection impact assessment (DPIA) summaries

What is a data protection impact assessment?

A Data protection impact assessment (also known as privacy impact assessments or PIAs) is a tool which can help organisations identify the most effective way to comply with their data protection obligations and meet individuals’ expectations of privacy. An effective DPIA will allow organisations to identify and fix problems at an early stage, reducing the associated costs and damage to reputation, which might otherwise occur.

When is a Data Protection Impact Assessment carried out?

A DPIA is completed where new projects, initiatives and processes are due to be introduced within the Trust, also where significant changes/upgrades to existing system or processes are to take place.  A DPIA is only necessary where the initiative involves using or sharing personal information.

All Data Protection Impact Assessments when completed will be submitted to the Data Protection Officer and/or the Information Governance Group for approval.
