Changing your outpatient appointment

What do I do if I cannot attend my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your appointment, or need to change it to a more suitable date and time, it is important to let us know as soon as possible.  This will enable us to offer your appointment to another patient and rebook you another at a more convenient time.


The easiest way to change your appointment is via managing your appointments by text message and online.


Alternatively, please:

  • Telephone the Outpatients Call Centre on 01612064100 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm excluding bank and public holidays)
  • Telephone the clinic you are due to visit (the number will be available on the top of your appointment letter)


If you need to cancel or change a new patient appointment booked through the electronic booking system called NHS e-referral you need to contact the national telephone appointment line on 034560888888 between 8am to 8pm weekdays, and 8am to 4pm weekends and Bank Holidays. The appointment line is closed on Christmas Day.

Please note that successive patient cancellation requests may result in you being discharged back to your GP or referrer.


What happens if I fail to attend my appointment?

It is important that you attend your appointment for your health and wellbeing.  If you fail to attend and have not told us, your hospital doctor will review your case notes and decide if a further appointment is required, or you may be discharged back to the care of your GP. 


Patients who do not attend their appointment waste valuable NHS resources and can delay other patients from being seen.
