Supported Trainee programme makes a difference
Tutors and staff from Pure Innovations and Salford City College welcome new students to the Supported Trainee programme at Salford Royal

Salford Royal welcomed a cohort of 10 new students to its supported traineeship programme.

This new collaboration with Pure Innovations is an employment based training project providing people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities an opportunity to develop employability skills in a real workplace surrounded by other working people.

The trainees started at Salford Royal at the end of September and will be based there for a year, which like an academic term is split into three sessions.  Each session will see the trainees rotating around a number of departments across the Trust.  Some of the departments already signed up to support the trainees include Domestic Services, Estates and Facilities, Health Records, Pharmacy and a number of the inpatient wards.

During their time at the Trust, trainees not only gain experience and skills in a busy workplace but will be provided with the opportunity to gain qualifications from classroom based activities provided by Salford City College.

Pure Innovations have run similar schemes across Greater Manchester, resulting in a number of trainees gaining permanent employment.  This new programme may see at least five trainees being offered permanent jobs at Salford Royal on completion of the programme.

Human Resources Service Manager Lesley Moss, who received an MBE earlier this year for the work she has done at Salford Royal around employment issues in the Salford community, said: “You can really turn lives around by just giving people the opportunity for employment and the right advice and guidance.  This unique collaboration with Pure Innovations will make a real difference to the lives of each of our trainees and we are delighted to be able to provide such an opportunity here at Salford Royal.”
