Consultant Surgeon Iain Anderson collects MBE

Salford Royal Consultant Surgeon Iain Anderson said it was a great privilege to be presented with his MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Mr Anderson received the honour for his contribution to clinical surgery and medical education. He has worked at Salford Royal in various roles since 1980, having been a consultant since 1995.

The MBE was presented by Prince Charles at an investiture ceremony which included a guard of honour by the Household Cavalry.

Mr Anderson said: “Asking the cabbie to ‘take me to the Palace’ was the first step in a memorable, but slightly unreal, day.

“I hadn’t been inside the Palace before, it was very impressive. Everyone went out of their way to make the day special and personal, even though I understand they hold an investiture most weeks.”

Mr Anderson said meeting the other award recipients on the day was humbling.

He added: “It was humbling to see the work that other people do and what they achieve”.

“It has been a great privilege and experience to have been lucky enough to have been chosen for this award. Thanks go to the many excellent colleagues I work with at Salford Royal and also to my family for all the support they continue to give me.”
