Psoriasis flashdance
Dermatology staff take part in a flashdance to raise awareness of psoriasis

Psoriasis Shout Out

Comedian Toby Hadoke and fashion blogger Helen Hanrahan will join Professor Chris Griffiths and colleagues from the dermatology department at Salford Royal on Wednesday 30 April for a psoriasis roadshow, part of a week of events focusing on the skin condition.

The Manchester Psoriasis Shout Out from Monday 28 April to Friday 2 May aims to raise awareness of the inflammatory condition which affects around 1.8 million people in the UK and causes red, scaling patches of skin.

The festival of events will bring together people living with the condition with those working at Salford Royal and The University of Manchester to develop effective treatments.

A Shout Out roadshow which will be held on Salford Royal’s site, next to Central car park, from 9.30am-4.30pm on Wednesday 30 April, will offer a chance to chat with other people living with psoriasis and to visit a ‘chill out’ zone with complementary hand/arm and Indian head massages.

Staff and visitors can try ‘mindfulness’, a method to help reduce stress and anxiety, in a free 30 minute session at 12.30pm – if you are interested, please register by email at info@psoriasisshoutout.co.uk. At 2.30pm, Prof Griffiths, Drs Amy Foulkes, Beth Fordham and Elise Kleyn, Toby and Helen will lead short presentations and discussions about living well with psoriasis.

Blogger Helen is also a stylist for a fashion show with a twist at the intu Trafford Centre on Friday 2 May, 1.30 and 5.30pm. Models include people with psoriasis as well as staff from Salford Royal and the University.
