Welcome service for Trust Chaplains

A special service was held at Salford Royal to welcome a new hospital Chaplain and Lead Chaplain to the Trust.

The Bishop of Middleton The Rt Revd Mark Davies conducted the licensing service for new Chaplain Rev

Janet Whittingham and he also presented to the congregation of friends, family and colleagues the Trust’s new Lead Chaplain Rev Jennifer Hood.

Rev Whittingham is Assistant Curate OLM (Ordained Local Minister) with the Salford All Saints Team Ministry. She will work at Salford Royal two days a week.

She said: “This is the first time I have worked in a hospital and I am really looking forward to it. I love meeting patients and it is wonderful getting to know them.

“Some patients just want to talk with someone, while others want to pray. People do open their heart and it can be very emotional but it gives me a sense of joy that I can be there to help them.”

The grandmother-of-seven, who lives in Salford, was presented with symbols of ministry at the service including a bible, a flask of oil and bread and wine.

During the service, Rev Jennifer Hood was also officially welcomed as the new Lead Chaplain.

Jennifer, who joined the Trust as a Chaplain 12 months ago, has taken over the post which was previously held by Rev Dr Ian Carter.

Jennifer said: “As we are continuing to develop as a Trust, this is an exciting opportunity to develop as a Chaplaincy and be part of Salford Royal’s growth and future.”

The Salford Royal Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Centre is located on the 3rd floor of Hope Building.
