Honorary Doctorate for Trust Executive Medical Director

Salford Royal’s Executive Medical Director Dr Chris Brookes has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bolton to mark his outstanding contribution to health care.

Dr Brookes is also a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Trust and Executive Medical Director for Greater Manchester Major Trauma service.

He is also well known in the world of sport as Chief Medical Officer for both Wigan Warriors Rugby League and England Rugby Football League.

Dr Brookes said it was an honour and a privilege both to receive the accolade and to support and care for the patients of Greater Manchester. He added:”The work we have done in stroke and major trauma care is something that has enhanced the lives of many people.”

He congratulated all those graduating from the University this summer and told them to never stop learning: “It has been said that learning is lifelong, not something you do for a while and draw a line under. During my career in medicine this is a maxim I live by. I’ve continued to learn new skills and develop.

“That has helped spur my interest in medicine and made me the person I am today.”
