Salford Royal celebrates World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day is celebrated today - Thursday 9 March, and Salford Royal is getting involved in raising awareness of kidney health. There are stands throughout the Hope Building hosted by a variety of organisations and groups.

Join us to find out more about kidneys and get involved in the activities such as:

  • Hope Kidney Patients Association will have a raffle stall raising money to support kidney patients. They will also be promoting exercise and a healthy lifestyle with the support of a Salford physio through their exercise challenge. Have a go at their exercise bike for a few minutes and have your blood pressure taken before and after to see the benefit of exercise! There is chance to win a prize as well – come down to find out more!

  • Complementary therapists will be on hand to help you learn about complementary therapy and the benefits to patients on dialysis. There will also be an opportunity to have a taster of some of the treatments they offer to kidney patients – come down and try them out!

  • Young Adults Renal Network (YARN) will be partnering with the renal dietitians to provide some renal-friendly cookies and will have fun activities for you to get involved with!

  • The Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) team will be on hand to keep you informed about looking after your kidneys with information on staying hydrated and lowering salt intake. Have a chat with them and see what advice they can offer you!

  • The Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Working Group will be raising awareness of the Trust-wide collaborative and encouraging staff and patients to take care of their kidneys. Teams from pharmacy, EAU, and Quality Improvement staff will be hosting the table throughout the day for you to find out more.
