Shining Stars - Acute Medical Rotation for nurses

We have developed the 18-month Shining Stars Acute Medicine Rotational Programme for highly motivated nurses who are keen to develop both their clinical and leadership skills. This week we welcomed the first group of Shining Stars to Salford Royal.

We recognised that as a newly qualified nurse it is sometimes difficult to know which particular area to specialise in after you’ve had a number of placements over a range of different departments.

The Shining Stars Acute Medical Rotation was driven by the idea of developing advanced clinical competencies by giving a fantastic grounding in Acute Medicine.

The programme consists of three six-month placements; within a medical high care area (EAU, MHDU, HCU), a specialist medical ward and an acute medical ward. Much like our other departments, the Practice Development team will be very active in supporting our new nurses on this programme.

The Shining Stars Acute Medical Rotation is still in its infancy but we strongly believe a rotational scheme is perfect for enriching an individual’s nursing career.

Find out more about the opportunities available to you at Salford Royal by attending our Open Day on 5 October. To register please email standoutnursing@srft.nhs.uk.
