  • Martin Hibbert Bomb survivor's nurse joins Kilimanjaro questA survivor of the Manchester Arena bomb attack is hoping to raise £1m by climbing Kilimanjaro - and he'll be joined on the journey by some of the people who saved his life. Martin Hibbert was in Manchester Arena when the bomb exploded and he suffered 22 shrapnel wounds, which left him paralysed from the waist down. 30 March 2021
  • Blood on Board Milestone for life-saving Blood on Board projectA life-saving project bringing blood transfusion to critically ill and injured people across the region has treated its 100th patient. Blood on Board is a collaboration between North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA), Blood Bikes Manchester, the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Salford Royal's Transfusion Service. 15 April 2021

  • Raj Jain NCA Chief Executive Raj Jain to retire at end of SummerIn a personal message to staff at the Northern Care Alliance today, the group's Chairman Professor Michael Luger announced that its Chief Executive Raj Jain is to retire from the NHS at the end of this Summer. Prof. Luger confirmed that Mr Jain will reach and celebrate his 60th birthday next year and so he and his wife have decided the time is right for them both to retire from their respective roles in the NHS. 15 April 2021

  • Spinal treatment first patient Pioneering spinal treatment helping adults with debilitating conditionNusinersen is a drug that has been commonly used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in children but had not previously been approved for use in adults with the same condition. Up until now, adults with SMA living in the North West of England had no effective treatment option available to them. But, after approval by NHS England to use this medication in adults, Salford Royal has become one of only 11 centres in the country able to provide the treatment. 14 May 2021
  • Omar Pathmanaban Patient-led charity supports research into rare and incurable genetic conditionA new transatlantic partnership will support research aiming to find an effective treatment for a rare genetic condition. Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) affects around one in 30,000 people in their lifetime and causes tumours to grow along nerves, causing deafness, vision loss and loss of mobility. Now researchers at the recently launched Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre have agreed a partnership with the patient-led charity NF2 BioSolutions UK & Europe, the UK arm of the global... 24 May 2021
